A Swiss manufacturer of meat processing machines wanted to expand its product range and develop a machine for cutting frozen pork bellies.

Helbling was able to develop a completely new machine within a short time frame thanks to its experience in developing production machines (including in the area of food) and having all the required specialist expertise at its disposal. The project also involved developing the company's new process for cutting frozen meat.

Key Figures

  • Frozen bellies split into 2-5 longitudinal parts (strips)
  • Partial or continuous cutting
  • Throughput of up to eight bellies/minute
  • Fully automated inline operation
  • Hygienic design

Our Contribution

  • Developed the complete mechanics, industrial design, and hardware, and designed the software/controls
  • Developed a “separating meat” process
  • Followed a structured approach, from the brainstorming right through to assisting in the commissioning of the finished machine, all in under eight months
  • Created functional models and conducted testing

Outcome

  • Hoegger, which has been part of US firm Provisur Technologies since 2018 and will remain a product brand, brought a machine for cutting/separating meat onto the market for the first time ever. The “Belly Splitter” opens the doors to a new market area.
  • The machine’s successful presentation at the world's largest trade fair for food (Anuga/Cologne) swiftly led to the first orders.
  • Very short project throughput time of less than eight months
  • First prototype successfully commissioned for a very satisfied end customer
